Independent research, 15 October 2026. Broker features and costs vary by entity, account and market conditions. CFDs and leveraged FX carry substantial risk; no trading result is guaranteed.

A broker can advertise a spread “from 0.0 pips” and still charge a meaningful amount for a completed trade. The spread is only one component of transaction cost. A practical estimate also accounts for any commission, position size, overnight financing and execution differences. For anyone comparing TMGM accounts or alternative brokers, this calculation is more useful than a ranking based on the smallest number on a promotional banner.

Here is a straightforward way to estimate the cost of common forex trades in 2026. We use the TMGM international account comparison as a source for its published EDGE and CLASSIC pricing, then make the arithmetic explicit. The sample spreads below are hypothetical, not quotes collected from a live trading account.

Start with the four cost components

Spread: The difference between a symbol’s bid and ask. If EUR/USD is quoted at 1.08000/1.08010, the spread is one pip. With a standard 100,000-unit position and a USD-quoted currency pair, one pip is typically worth USD 10. Entering and exiting incurs the cost of crossing the spread, although the exact realized result also depends on market movement and execution.

Commission: Some account structures charge a fee separately. TMGM’s global EDGE comparison lists USD 7 per round-turn FX trade, with metals shown separately at USD 5 per round turn. Commission schedules can vary by currency, symbol and contractual conditions. Verify how it is actually deducted on the account statement.

Swap or overnight financing: Positions carried across rollover may incur a debit or credit. The sign and amount can change by instrument and conditions. Holding time can therefore matter as much as an attractive opening spread. The broker’s trading enquiries explain where to inspect current swap details in the platform.

Execution and other expenses: A stop order can be filled away from its requested level during a gap; quotes can move while an order is processed. Currency conversion, payment channels, banking charges and any applicable account fees also belong in a complete comparison, even though not every expense attaches to every trade.

These figures describe marketing conditions, not statistical average pricing. A “from” rate does not tell you how frequently that rate is available, at what time of day it occurs, or whether the associated liquidity will support your order size. Brokers can also change instruments, commissions and product terms. Recheck the public schedule and your signed account documents.

Illustrative round-turn EUR/USD cost model

For a USD-denominated trading account holding one standard lot of EUR/USD, a pip is approximately USD 10. Suppose the observed spread is 0.3 pip on EDGE with a USD 7 commission and 1.1 pips on CLASSIC with zero commission. The spread cost would be USD 3 and USD 11 respectively. Adding the EDGE commission gives a simple estimated round-turn total of USD 10 versus USD 11, before other adjustments.

Input (hypothetical)EDGECLASSIC
Lot size1.001.00
Spread assumption0.3 pip1.1 pips
Spread costUSD 3USD 11
Separate FX commissionUSD 7USD 0
Estimated total before other costsUSD 10USD 11

Now change only the assumptions: with a 0.6-pip EDGE spread, the same calculation becomes USD 13. At a 1.0-pip CLASSIC spread, it becomes USD 10. CLASSIC would be cheaper under that invented scenario. This is precisely why a minimum spread alone cannot identify a universal winner. The examples illustrate a formula, not historical TMGM execution data.

A useful break-even calculation

For this specific EUR/USD example, the EDGE commission of USD 7 is equal to roughly 0.7 pip per standard lot. If CLASSIC’s actual spread exceeds EDGE’s actual spread by more than 0.7 pip, EDGE may have the lower simple entry-and-exit cost; if the difference is less than 0.7 pip, CLASSIC may be cheaper. This assumes the commission scales proportionally with size and ignores other expenses that can affect the result.

For 0.10 lot, EUR/USD pip value on a USD account is around USD 1. You would scale both spread cost and a per-lot commission accordingly. For pairs in which USD is not the quote currency, pip value depends on conversion, and instrument contract sizes may differ. Do not apply the USD 10-per-pip shortcut automatically to JPY pairs, gold or indices.

Gold, indices and CFD cost checks

XAU/USD price increments and lot contracts are not necessarily analogous to forex pip conventions. A price movement of USD 1 in gold translates into different position value depending on the ounces represented by the contract. Some instruments have their own fixed or proportional commission schedule, margin tier and financing rules. Look at the symbol specification for contract size, tick size, tick value, trading sessions and applicable swaps.

Similar caution applies to indices and cryptocurrency CFDs. The symbol’s margin requirement or maximum leverage can change during unusual market conditions. Any trading-cost worksheet should use actual platform specifications, not generic assumptions borrowed from a different broker or asset class.

Overnight swaps and trading frequency

Consider two traders who each make ten EUR/USD trades in a month. One closes every position within minutes; another holds individual positions for a week. Their spread and commission costs may be similar per round trip, but the second trader’s swap exposure can substantially change the monthly total. In markets subject to a triple rollover adjustment, the holding calendar also matters.

High trading frequency changes the equation in a different way. A one-pip combined difference on every transaction can compound across many trades, but greater frequency also introduces more opportunities for poor execution and risk concentration. This article is about measuring the cost, not recommending high-frequency trading as a route to profit.

Funding fees and account-currency conversion

TMGM advertises a variety of deposit methods and commonly displays zero broker-side deposit charges. Yet the funding page notes possible intermediary-bank charges for certain routes. Conversion can also occur when the payment currency, account currency and withdrawal currency are different. Those items should be assessed separately from the spreads shown in the trading terminal.

Make a small checklist for any broker comparison: instrument, date and trading session; account type and entity; position size; observed bid–ask spread; commission on both sides; any overnight financing; conversion and funding charges; and an allowance for execution uncertainty. The independent FOREXSIGNAL24 Broker Tools can help organize hypothetical scenarios, but results must be checked against your actual contract.

How to compare TMGM fairly with other brokers

A comparison between TMGM, IC, Exness or another provider needs matched assumptions. Compare the same EUR/USD position size, market session, holding period, account currency and all-in fee components; document the legal entity, leverage and investor protections separately. Mixing a zero-spread advertisement from one broker with an average spread from another is not meaningful research.

For a broader view of the account models, read our TMGM account comparison guides and the TMGM broker review. The cheapest theoretical trade is not always the most suitable brokerage relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Does a zero-spread account always cost less?

No. An account can display a zero or very tight spread while charging commission or other fees. Compare the cost of the completed trade, not a single quote.

Is the USD 7 EDGE fee charged only once?

The cited TMGM table describes USD 7 per round turn for forex. Brokers may display the charge in separate entry and exit portions; verify your platform statement so it is not counted twice.

Do swap rates stay the same every day?

No. Swap rates depend on the product and may change. Check the platform’s current contract specification and relevant rollover convention for your position.

Can this article predict my exact commission and spread?

No. It presents published structures and hypothetical calculations, not live executable quotations. Actual costs must be verified in the account and instrument that apply to you.
